A fat, dark blue cat rolls around, taking chomp after chomp of delicious amigurumi sushi creatures. All of the sushi characters in the Sushi Cat Game have charming little faces. The animation alone within this game is quite impressive and interesting.

The Sushi Cat Game story starts with Sushi Cat falling in love with another cat friend in the window of a store that he can not enter. He realizes that the only way that he can enter the store and find his true love is by eating enough delicious sushi to achieve a full belly. The game is level based. During the first level, for example, Sushi Cat must eat 30 pieces of sushi. The amount of sushi increases with each level.

The game is played by dropping Sushi Cat, who resembles a blue balloon, down several chutes that are full of sushi. As Sushi Cat falls, he "eats" the pieces of sushi that wait in the chutes. Sushi Cat becomes fuller as he eats the sushi and falls into bins at the bottom of the screen that have various point values. The player earns more points for dropping Sushi Cat if he is able to hit the sides of the chutes while sushi cat falls. Hitting the sides of the chutes gives multipliers to the score. At the end of the round, if there is more sushi to be eaten, these are called "bonus sushi" and the player drops Sushi Cat down the chute once more.
