Steampunk Tower - TD!

Steampunk Tower is a browser game about defending your base. On the surface, the premise is similar to Turret Wars. You buy weapons and place them around your base to fight off the invading troops which come in waves. However, the game itself bears little resemblance to Turret Wars. Steampunk Tower is fun, with a few minor annoyances.

Gameplay Your base, as the title suggests, is a steampunk tower. All weapons are placed onto the tower itself and invading armies come at the base from either side and eventually from the air. You earn money for weapons and upgrades by killing enemy forces and sending waves in ahead of schedule. You have a limited number of weapon options and a limited number of slots in which to place them, though the spaces do grow as you place weapons. Weapons can be upgraded more than once. Each weapon has to receive enough experience to upgrade, however, and you must earn enough money for each upgrade.

Each level has a certain number of waves and if you successfully defend your tower, you are awarded one to three stars at the end of the level, based on how much of your tower's health remains. After you progress far enough in the game to upgrade your weapons, you are also able to upgrade your tower and give each weapon class a permanent upgrade.

Pros The graphics are simple but elegant, so there are no pixelated "that sort of looks like a square tank" enemies. In addition to the sound of the gunfire, there is scratchy period music playing in the background, the kind you might have heard played with old news reels during the world wars, so the attacks aren't such a repetitive assault on the ears, but you can also disable the music and the sound, if you want. Game play is quick and the set up is relatively easy to understand. It usually doesn't take a lot of time to earn money for upgrades. You can replay any level to try for more stars.

Cons Dragging guns into their slots is not as smooth as it could be. The upgrade process is a bit over complicated, since you have to drag the guns to the center and down to the basement first, click the upgrade, then drag them back up and out.

Enjoy the game!
